The 2023 Design Awards program hosted by AIA Wisconsin has selected ten exceptional architectural designs. In celebration of this, the AIA will be hosted an awards gala in Milwaukee on September 15, 2023 at the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory Domes.

Every project was conceived by members of the AIA Wisconsin chapter. From a pool of 64 submissions from various Wisconsin-based architects, three outstanding projects clinched the Honor Award for unparalleled excellence, while seven others were distinguished with Merit Awards in specialized categories. Any global project was eligible as long as it was proposed by an AIA Wisconsin-based architect.

A revered jury panel, with no ties to Wisconsin, was tasked with choosing the laurelled projects. The 2023 Architectural Excellence Awards panel encompassed Janette S. Blackburn, FAIA, from Shepley Bulfinch, Jennifer Park, AIA, representing Park Fowler Plus, and Todd Hoehn from WEISS/MANFREDI.

Established in 1911, AIA Wisconsin has been a pivotal force in championing the efforts and concerns of architects throughout Wisconsin. The organization’s primary mission is to offer continuous learning opportunities for architects and to envision a more superior built landscape for future generations. Submissions for the Architectural Excellence Awards were evaluated through the lens of AIA’s Design Excellence Framework. This model evaluates the designs based on their engagement with societal and environmental elements. The projects selected this year were assessed beyond their visual appeal to emphasize their harmonious relationship with both the human and ecological spheres.
