As we approach the end of the fiscal year, many businesses are reevaluating their budgets, and their equipment. With economic pressures mounting and uncertainty in supply chains and interest rates, companies are looking for ways to save money and invest wisely.
That’s where Section 179 of the IRS tax code comes in. If you’re not familiar with it, this powerful deduction allows businesses to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment, like printers and multifunction devices, from their taxable income in the year it was purchased and placed into service.
What Is Section 179?
Section 179 is a provision in the IRS tax code designed to help businesses invest in themselves by making it more affordable to purchase capital equipment. Rather than depreciating the asset over several years, you can deduct the full cost in the same year you make the purchase.
Deduction Limits (as of current IRS guidelines):
Maximum deduction: $1,220,000
Spending cap on equipment purchases: $3,050,000
Bonus depreciation: 60% (applies after the Section 179 cap is reached)
This applies to equipment that is purchased and put into use by December 31, 2025 so timing matters.
Why Now Is the Smart Time to Buy
Here’s why using Section 179 before the end of 2025 makes strong business sense:
- Immediate Tax Relief: Instead of depreciating equipment over time, you can deduct the full cost now, reducing your 2025 taxable income.
- Combat Rising Costs: Supply chain issues and inflation continue to push hardware prices up. Locking in a discounted price now protects against future increases.
- Upgrade Without Breaking the Bank: With BPI’s 35% discount on Xerox printers (through October 31st), your up-front investment is significantly lower than usual—without sacrificing quality.
- Improve Productivity & Control: Upgrading your equipment can reduce downtime, improve print quality, and lessen the burden on internal IT staff. Whether it’s an in-house wide-format setup or full-service MPS, your operations become more efficient.
- Act Before the Deadline: To qualify for the 2025 deduction, equipment must be both purchased and placed into service by December 31. Ordering early ensures availability, delivery, and installation before the cutoff.
