Why Now Is the Time to Take Advantage of Section 179

As we approach the end of the fiscal year, many businesses are reevaluating their budgets, and their equipment. With economic pressures mounting and uncertainty in supply chains and interest rates, companies are looking for ways to save money and invest wisely.

That’s where Section 179 of the IRS tax code comes in. If you’re not familiar with it, this powerful deduction allows businesses to deduct the full purchase price of qualifying equipment, like printers and multifunction devices, from their taxable income in the year it was purchased and placed into service.

What Is Section 179?

Section 179 is a provision in the IRS tax code designed to help businesses invest in themselves by making it more affordable to purchase capital equipment. Rather than depreciating the asset over several years, you can deduct the full cost in the same year you make the purchase.

Deduction Limits (as of current IRS guidelines):

  • Maximum deduction: $1,220,000

  • Spending cap on equipment purchases: $3,050,000

  • Bonus depreciation: 60% (applies after the Section 179 cap is reached)

This applies to equipment that is purchased and put into use by December 31, 2025 so timing matters.
